Distracted Driving Awareness Month

In 2022 there were 3,308 deaths as a result of distracted driving. * The definition of Distracted driving is; a driver's attention being diverted away from driving. * This can be any activity like using a phone, eating, applying makeup, or talking to passengers.  While all ages are guilty of distracted driving, we see it to be more common in teens. ** Join the movement and help us spread the facts to get all drivers to pay more attention to the road. 

  • There were 15,441 motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in Michigan in 2022. *** 

  • There were 53 fatal motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in Michigan in 2022. *** 

  • There were 4,118 injury motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in Michigan. *** 

  • There were 2,382 motor vehicle drivers using a cell phone at the time of a crash in Michigan in 2022. *** 

  • Distracted driving was a factor in 8% of all fatal crashes, 12% of all injury crashes and 11% of all motor vehicle crashes in total in the U.S. in 2022. * 

  • 5% of all drivers involved in fatal crashes in the U.S. in 2022 were distracted at the time of the crashes. *
